This in-person or Zoom-based live teaching will equip your ministry team or congregation to better understand, engage, and care for gender minorities. Posture Shift has cared for trans, non-binary, and other gender minority youth for nearly 20 years. Our best-practice care of vulnerable youth is why many young people are alive – and loved well by both family and their faith community.
Our seminar includes coverage of theological, medical, and missiological considerations. Gender minorities face the highest rates of family rejection, homelessness, trafficking, suicide, and violence. We describe the experience of gender dysphoria, and why this results in such deep suffering for young people.
Growing up trans or non-binary is not an easy experience. It is fraught with both internal anguish and a high risk of mistreatment from others. One of the most challenging aspects of being a gender minority is simply not being believed – or being viewed as delusional. Derogatory rhetoric has dramatically risen to the point where open mocking of trans people is applauded, and the dignity of individuals is often dismissed. This world can be cruel.
But Christ-followers should never act with cruelty towards vulnerable young people. The church and home should be the “safest” places for gender minorities – and we should be the “most loving” people offering them genuine love, thoughtful care, and belonging.
